Dubrovnik, Croatia

The next morning came very early in Dubrovnik, Croatia. We entered the amazing old town through a draw bridge at the Pile Gate.

Some initial rain cleared as we climbed the walls that encircle the city although the polished marble always glistens as though it has just rained.

The amazing views quickly captured my heart and kept changing with every step.  You didn't want to miss a single peep hole as this is what each had in store.

We walked through the Stradum, Dubrovnik's main promenade or placa in Old Town, alive with locals and other tourists. The beauty below matched the view above as we walked  along on the beautiful marble.

We found the "hole in the wall" cafe called Buza that had the best view of the sea and climbed down close to the water, but wanted to find a bit nicer place for lunch.

After more walking through lots of the side streets and through a market area, a nice lady welcomed us to sit and enjoy a nice lunch of fresh seafood and black risotto. Not only was the pride of this town seen in how well it was maintained and restored after war, but also in the people as she happily talked to me about her city. With such reasonable prices, we could afford souvenirs (and with no haggling expectation I enjoyed it more) in addition to a nice lunch.
As our ship departed, we received beautiful views of several of the more than 1,200 islands that make up the Dalmation coast.  We quickly agreed Dubrovnik definitely climbed the list of favorite places we've ever visited. This is one place we'll be talking about for many years to come.
Saturday we flew to London through Madrid to enjoy an evening along the South Bank in London. We were able to see everything illuminated, especially Westminster, from the other side of the Thames. After finding and eating at Founder's Arms Pub, we agreed it was another one of our fabulous finds.

It was hard to end such a wonderful trip. Rare time together was priceless and I can't think of better places to be to celebrate the wonderful years we've spent together. I could have spent a week anywhere with Matt but experiencing new places together was a dream. The long travel and absolute giddy faces that met me at the airport, however, helped remind me why I love home.
