Saturday started early to catch an 8:30am flight to Venice. Staying just one tube stop from Heathrow was a great idea. Our day started well as "You've been upgraded to club (1st class)" was a nice surprise at check in.
Ah, Venice. The romantic city. We dropped our luggage at the dock and took an express boat (called alilaguna) to the famous San Marco's Square. We found it crowded. Thankfully, we headed away from the square and were not disappointed by Venice. We were less impressed by the grand canal and main bridges but loved zigzagging through the tiny little streets finding ourselves all alone. We walked all the way back to the pier just in time for boarding.
Once aboard and emergency muster station drill complete, we received the best views of Venice leaving the port. At dinner, we met new friends from Pennsylvania, San Francisco and Ecuador and looked forward to comparing stories throughout the trip.
